From Containing more than 900 annotated entries, including online resources and subscription databases published from 1990 to 2006, chapters are arranged by topic and region. Entries provide basic bibliographic information, and the annotations are almost entirely descriptive. Author Kahl is very diligent, tracking down titles from review sources, publisher catalogs, and Web sites; the title and subject indexes provide easy text access. Nevertheless, the lack of evaluative annotations, especially noting comparable works, may limit the book’s usefulness to acquisition librarians. Selectors and reference librarians, however, may still benefit from the clear organization and the wide range of cited works. --Donald Altschiller

Review

"The only comprehensive reference of its kind, this outstanding guide to global politics contains more than 900 entries on 1300 English-language materials, published between 1990 and 2006. Kahl….offers more than a mere bibliographic catalog. Each of the 14 geographically and thematically organized chapters….includes a multiparagraph description of the content of every publication listed, whether in print or online. The book closes with three valuable indexes, organized by subject, title, and author/editor. Highly recommended for international affairs collections."

"Kahl's guide references indexes, Internet indexes, guides and handbooks, dictionaries and encyclopedias, chronologies, biographical studies and directories, bibliographies, atlases, document sources, statistical sources, and yearbooks for the various subdivisions of the fields of international relations, international security, and comparative politics. Useful annotations for each resource provide concise but deep explanations of the contents, and useful tips for prospective users….This comprehensive guide will be a welcome addition for the faculty and students of any academic institution offering course work in international and comparative politics. It will be particularly useful for faculty and graduate students who are active researchers, as well as librarians involved in collection development for these areas. Highly recommended. Academic libraries supporting upper-level undergraduates and above."
